SOPA/PIPA Anti-Piracy Legislation

Clicking on the above picture takes you to an article on Pajiba.com, which explains some of the relevant issues and has a widget that allows you to easily contact your representative. The widget also links to a petition to the US State Dept. for persons outside of the U.S.
Of course, you should look at the issues for yourself, but my impression is that the legislation is overreaching and possibly a threat to first amendment protections of free speech.
ETA: OK, now I feel stupid. Obama has come out against SOPA and Representative Cantor (R-VA) has effectively killed SOPA. However, PIPA (the Senate version) is still under consideration, so call your senator, not your congressman. Still, phew, my ridiculous gifs appear to be safe...
Theoretically, my journal could be shut down under this legislation, just for the infraction of posting gifs like this (god knows what the legislation would do to fanfic):
