Yes, this is really hard for Veronica. I imagine she would not ever do well in therapy, so I'm betting her sessions with Dr. Dave pre-series were relatively ineffective. As pathetic at it seems, I bet Ms. James helped her the most (besides the generally steadying influence of her dad).

I picture Veronica as really flailing after the roof, and not knowing how to help Mac because she was probably barely functional herself (although of course she was hiding it from everyone). So I thought it might have happened this way, with Veronica saying *exactly* the wrong thing, because Veronica thinks that the truth is supreme, and rarely considers that a gentle lie is sometimes more healing. She struggled with that concept a lot. But of course my take on it is just a supposition and not really supported by canon in any way.

Don't give up yet. I might just have a plan....
